Financial Planning Association of Australia

How the FPA replaced paper sign-ins with verifiable session data at its three-day Professionals Congress, accurately tracking CPD credits for more than 13,000 members.

“We never had that data before. Now I have numbers I can look at, and I can see where every attendee went.”

Pene Lovett · Chief Operating Officer, FPA

Evolve. Engage. Grow. Inspire

This was the theme of the Professionals Congress, a leading annual event for financial planners organised by the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of Australia.

The FPA provides advocacy and education for over 13,000 members, including more than 5,500 certified financial planners. It is at the forefront of the movement to increase recognition for financial planners in Australia, and supports its members’ advancement through professional certification and college degrees.

Seeking Better Insights Into Member Attendance

For as long as Pene Lovett, Chief Operating Officer, has overseen the three-day Congress, she has run it the same way: plan the event, workshops and guest speakers; hire a professional organiser for the venue, registration and catering; hold the event; and hope members, exhibitors and sponsors love it and come back.

The Congress offers access to nearly 50 industry exhibitors and more than 24 workshops. Organisers knew who was registered and how many CPD credits each workshop was worth, but with only a paper sign-in sheet they had no accurate way of knowing if members actually attended. Staff were left recording credits from incomplete information.

A Modern Approach to Event Management

Check-In & Badging, Lead Capture, Session Management and Reporting & Insights, working as one.

Fast, Paperless Check-In

Attendees received an e-ticket by email or text and scanned it on arrival, and a Jomablue Smart Badge printed instantly. No queues, no paper badges in plastic sleeves, no hassle.

Real-Time Session Attendance

Smart Badges gave the FPA a complete, real-time view of which workshops members attended, when they entered and exited, and how many CPD credits they completed.

Accurate, Automatic CPD Credits

Attendance was recorded instantly and fed into the FPA's information management software, automatically generating CPD certificates members can check online without calling the call centre.

Data That Drives Decisions

With engagement and lead data at their fingertips, the FPA can measure member engagement and show sponsors and exhibitors the value of the Professionals Congress.
